Properties of Materials

We can explore the Physical properties of materials by observing the material. Examples include colour, texture, smell.

Reflective Materials

  • Reflective materials describes how much light is reflected from the material 
  • The reflection occurs always on the surface of the material
  • Example: foil, water, window, mirror

Absorbent Materials

  • Absorbent materials soak up water and allows water pass through
  • The ability of a material to take in moisture
  • Example: fabric, cotton wool, tissue

Waterproof  Materials

  • Waterproof materials does not allow water pass through
  • The ability of a material to keep moisture out
  • Example: rubber, leather, plastic, glass
